Aman’s brand Mango Chutney recalled due to extraneous material

Products Recalled:

Aman’s brand Mango chutney WAS recalled due to extraneous material a piece of glass was present in the product. The Mango chutney is produced by Amans brand (Ontario, Canada).

Problem:

  • The Government of Canada ordered an immediate recall of Amans Mango Chutney on October 14, 2022. This product contains pieces of glass that could cause a possible health risk.
  • The product has been recalled from the customers by Amans brand, who had reached out to allergy support organisations that will inform their members regarding the recall.
  • A point-ofsale notice has been issued to its consumers that elaborates on the cause of a product’s recall and instructs the consumers about the measures that should be taken if the product was already purchased [1].

Scientific Evidence:

The glass was the most frequently mentioned foreign object in those investigations. Any physical substance not typically found in food that could harm a person or cause them to become ill (including psychological trauma) or suffer an injury is referred to as a physical hazard (Corlett 1991). The harm can cause cuts and bleeding and may need surgery to locate or treat. Glass sources such as bottles, jars, light fixtures, and utensils must be kept free of food contamination [2].

What Regulations Clarifies:

  • Metal detectors can locate ferrous and nonferrous metals in foods, and bone fragments can be found through X-ray technology.
  • Preventive maintenance and sanitation programs for plants and equipment are necessary.
  • Proper shipping, receiving, distribution and storage procedures and packaging material handling practices (particularly those involving glass) must be evaluated for their potential to introduce hazards.
  • Finally, employee education and practices must involve knowledge and prevention of physical hazard introduction [3].
