We use information from trusted sources, like journals, for an existing ingredient. We publish the work in reputed peer-reviewed journals if it is a novel ingredient. Other sources of information for this include testing on animals, genomic/gene expression research, in vitro bioassays, chemical comparisons and analyses, activities (such as ORAC or oxygen radical absorbance activities), and, most convincing of all, human clinical trials.
