Recall of Shredded Chicken due to incorrect label

Sharing is caring!

Products Recalled:

Shredded chicken – Costco brand Shredded Chicken (1 kg) of 10RSC1 and date of making use By 19/10/2023 is being recalled from the market sold only in Auckland [1].

Problem:

11 November 2022 product of shredded chicken from Costco is recalled due to labelling of incorrect use-by date.

Scientific Evidence:

The use-by date is related to safety (if you eat it after that date, you might get food poisoning), but the best-before date is related to quality (you can probably still eat it after that date, although it might not taste or look as nice) [2].

What Regulations Clarifies:

A ‘Use-By’ date is not a safety date for food products except for infant formulae. Instead, it is the last date recommended for consumption at the best quality.
