Problem

  • Mozart Liqueurs were recalled on November 30th 2022, by Marussia Beverages UK since they contain milk that was not mentioned on the label. These products can be a possible health risk for individuals sensitive to milk or its constituents.
  • The products mentioned above are being recalled from customers by Marussia Beverages UK, who has been instructed to contact the relevant allergy support groups to inform their members of the recall. Customers have received a point-of-sale notice from the business. Customers are informed in these notices why the products are being recalled and what to do if they have purchased them [1]

Scientific Evidence:

A clinical syndrome known as lactose intolerance develops when a person consumes food or drink that contains the disaccharide lactose. The most typical kind of disaccharidase deficiency is lactase deficiency. The following are examples of typical symptoms and signs:

  • Diarrhoea,
  • Stomach bloating,
  • Abdominal pain,
  • Nausea, and
  • Flatulence [2].

What Regulations Clarifies:

  • If a product contains any of the 14 allergens like crustaceans, soybeans, sesame seeds, eggs, fish, lupin, milk, molluscs, peanuts and tree nuts, sulphur dioxide, celery or cereals, it must be labelled on the product label.
  • The allergens should be mentioned in bold font with allergen advice, or if an ingredient is a derivative of the allergen, the allergen must be mentioned within a parenthesis—for example, Tofu (soy) [3].
