Iced coffee recall due to the presence of foreign matter

Products Recalled:

Bega Dairy and Drinks Pty. Ltd. has recalled Dare Iced Coffee 750ml. Espresso, Double Espresso, Mocha and Double Espresso with No Sugar Added have been recalled from the market [1].

Problem: Food standard of Australia and New Zealand has issued a recall notice on October 2022 for  Dare Iced Coffee 750ml. It was reported to have plastic pieces inside the bottled milk drink. It has also issued the product’s use date for all the respective flavours.

Scientific Evidence:

If consumed, food products containing plastic pieces may cause illness/injury [2].

Product Image :What Regulations Clarifies:

  • Biological, chemical, or physical agents in or conditions of food that can potentially negatively impact human health are referred to as hazards in regulations.
  • Food can include physical contaminants like glass or metal shards. Another type of risk is a naturally present substance in food but undesirable in the finished product, such as bones in fish items.
  • This indicates that the food safety programme must take control of the food because it is (or may become) in a condition that requires it.
