FSMP are categorised into three groups:

i) Nutritionally complete food with a standard formulation: This type of food can serve as the sole source of nutrition when used according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

ii) Nutritionally complete food with a disease-specific formulation: This food is tailored for a disease, disorder, or medical condition. It can also serve as the sole source of nutrition if used as directed by the manufacturer.

iii)Nutritionally incomplete food: This category may have either a standard or disease-specific formulation, but it cannot be used as the sole source of nutrition.
