Individuals who are healthy and have been infected with Salmonella should look for symptoms of nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea (which may be bloody), abdominal cramps, and fever. Although it is uncommon, the infection may cause more serious illness such as an infection of the arteries, endocarditis, arthritis, muscle pain, irritation of the eyes, or urinary tract symptoms. Consumers who develop any of these signs and symptoms should consult a physician for further evaluation.
Pets that are infected with Salmonella may droop or appear lethargic, have diarrhea or bloody diarrhoea, fever, and vomiting. Some pets may only show decreased appetite, fever, and abdominal pain. Infected pets, if otherwise healthy, can be carriers and spread the infection to other animals and humans. Contact your veterinarian if your pet has consumed the recalled product and has these symptoms.
