After these claims have been reviewed by respective regulatory safety board in each country, the products are allowed in market. These statements, which are backed by scientific data, can be applied to both conventional foods and dietary supplements to describe the connection between a material (a particular food or food component) and an illness or other health issue (e.g., high blood pressure).

There are three types of Health Claims:

  • Functional Health Claims: Associates to growth, bodily functional development, psychological and behavioural functions, and weight-control
  • Risk Reduction Claims: It claims on decreasing a risk factor in disease development.
  • Claims relating to development of children: For example, Vitamin D is required for the general growth and bone development in children
